Julia Fiona Roberts' parents are Walter Grady Roberts and Betty Lou Bredemus. Her family is the fourth Roberts family to have resided in Atlanta. This started with her grandfather John Pendleton Roberts who was an agriculturalist. Her father took an early interest in the theater. As a college students at Emory University from 1952 to 1954, he took part in numerous shows. He joined the Air Force, and was stationed at Biloxi in Mississippi acted in a play with Betty Lou Bredemus. They got married in the year 1955 and their first child Eric Anthony was born in 1956. Walter attended Tulane University at New Orleans in the year 1957, after the couple left the Air Force of the United States. Walter began working for Atlanta Academy Theater and Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio in 1960. In 1964 Walter and Betty Lou began production on a local Saturday morning children's television show called Bum Bum and His Buddies which they financed on their own. They also founded the Actors and Writers Workshop in that same year. It was in operation for a period of about six years. In 1965, they welcomed two new children: Lelisa Billingsley and Julia Billingsley.
