Thunberg was able to take decisive action in August of 2018. Thunberg sat quietly outside of the Swedish Parliament, abstained from classes and held a placard which read "School Strike For Climate". She believed that this would draw the attention of politicians and prompt them to take action to prevent climate change. Swedish media captured Thunbergs strike, and word was spread. Following the strike, students all around took part in Thunberg's #FridaysforFuture movement. Students opted to skip Friday school to demonstrate against climate change. Climate activists from all around the globe coordinated the Global Strike for Climate. The event was hugely successful, more than 1.6million people from over 125 countries joined.
